Good News!

The word “Gospel” means good news. Christians use this word in reference to the best news of all – the news of salvation. All of us have sinned, living in rebellion against our Creator, and falling short of God’s glorious standard of holiness. But God the Father sent the Eternal Son of God to take up our humanity and, as a man (Jesus), to live the holy life we could not live only to give up His life on a cross as He suffered the wrath of God in our place. Sound good? Not yet, but that wasn’t the end. After dying for us, He was buried, and on the 3rd day He rose victorious over sin and death. Having ascended back to the Father, He reigns as Lord and offers forgiveness of sins and salvation to everyone who repents and trusts in Him. THAT is the GOOD NEWS! Now is the day of salvation, for He will soon return and establish His kingdom forever. Will you surrender before it is too late?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. (John 3:16-19, NIV)

When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off–for all who the Lord our God will call. (Acts 2:37-39, NIV)
